SV 'Mariner'
we undertook a habitat mapping survey in the
river Blackwater, Essex. The survey comprised the use of high resolution
sidescan sonar (Klein 3000), multi-beam swath bathymetry (GeoSwath plus) and
single-beam echo-sounder (Marimatech). Horizontal and vertical control was
obtained via a Leica GX1230 rover SmartNet RTK GPS.

Seabed Mapping Survey
During September 2007 we undertook a seabed mapping survey of Falmouth harbour
using a single beam echosounder; GeoChirp sub-bottom profiler; high resolution
sidescan sonar; and magnetometer. The purpose of the survey was to locate any
areas of archaeological interest as part of the Falmouth Harbour redevelopment
environmental impact assesment.

Habitat Mapping Survey
Between July 2005 and January 2006 we undertook a habitat mapping survey of
an area around Eddystone Reef, Plymouth. The objectives of the survey were to
map the extent of the rocky reef and surrounding mixed sediments, and classify
the various habitats present. The survey was undertaken in two phases - phase 1,
acoustic survey using sidescan sonar and single beam echosounder, and phase 2,
environmental survey using underwater video and digital still photography.
United Kingdom Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) surveys
We have been involved in the DTI’s SEA project over the past 5 years, with a
presence onboard all of the SEA environmental surveys. The main objectives of
the SEA surveys were to classify and map the seabed habitats and communities
within the UK continental shelf. SeaStar Survey have been responsible for
undertaking underwater video and stills photography and seabed sampling using
Day grabs, van Veen grabs, Hamon grabs, Box corers and Mega corers.

Sedimentation Monitoring Programme Survey
We have undertaken survey work for Sovereign Harbour over the past 3 years
as part of their entrance channel, maintenance dredging licence application. The
work comprises single-beam bathymetric and full environmental survey of dredged
sediment disposal site. Seabed sediment samples were collected using 0.1 m2
Hamon grab from our survey vessel ‘Mariner’ - sub-samples were taken for
chemical, biological and particle size analysis.

biotopes around the Welsh coast.
Babtie Aquatic – SV Mariner
Fish Population Survey Fawley and Shoreham Power Stations
We are involved in a 3 year contract with Babtie Aquatic, Southampton, to
undertake fish population studies around the cooling water intake pipes of
Fawley and Shoreham power stations. Sets of Beam trawls, Otter Board trawls, and
Frame trawls are taken close to the cooling water uptake pipes and two control
stations.
Gardline Environmental Ltd
We have assisted Gardline on a number of environmental and hydrographic
surveys over the past couple of years and we have been able to establish a close
working relationship. We often undertake underwater photographic and sediment
sampling surveys as sub-contractors onboard Gardline vessels.
Fugro Survey Ltd.
We have undertaken a large number of environmental surveys for Fugro over
the past couple of years. All of these surveys have involved the use of
underwater camera operations and sediment sampling. ‘Investigation into Extent
of Cold-Water Coral Reefs’ - during March 2004 a full site survey was undertaken
in the north Atlantic (Norwegian waters) for a proposed new offshore drill site.
SeaStar Survey were contracted to undertake a deep-water digital stills and
video survey to establish the location of cold water coral within the area of
the new drill site and report on the makeup, condition and extent of any reefs.

Teesside Offshore Windfarm – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Survey
We undertook an environmental impact assessment survey for the Tesside,
offshore windfarm during the summer 2003. The survey comprised seabed sampling
using Day grab, epifauna assessment using beam trawl, and habitat overview using
an underwater video sledge system.
